Understand the Flat Packaging Layout
A packaging dieline is the unfolded technical layout of a box before it is cut, creased and assembled. It shows how panels, flaps, folds and closing areas relate to each other so artwork can follow the real structure rather than a guessed rectangle.
The layout helps you plan the position of logos, product details, barcodes, background colours and inside print. Structures such as custom mailer boxes may include locking tabs, dust flaps and interior panels that change the available artwork area.
A dieline is different from a three-dimensional mock-up. The dieline controls the flat structure and artwork placement, while a mock-up shows how the completed packaging may look after assembly.

- Measure the product carefully before entering the box dimensions.
- Follow the tool labels for length, width and height in the correct order.
- Allow suitable space for inserts, padding or protective clearance where needed.

- Extend background colours or images into the required bleed area.
- Do not move, resize or remove structural lines while placing artwork.
